As with the cinnamon, the nutmeg stays fresh until the end. D&D got it right when they put their spices in the metal containers. This nutmeg I buy whole and grate it fresh when I need it, which makes for a fabulous taste to whatever I decide to put it in.

the nutmeg has a great scent that always takes me back to the holidays. it's a great hostess/host gift, paired with a micro zester and a bottle of gourmet eggnog. i add this to multiple meals, giving it an earthy sweetness.
